Hope Changes Everything

The Book of 1 Peter

A New Identity - 1 Peter 1:1-2

Date Sun, Jun 5, 2016

The most important thing about you is not how you think about yourself, but how God thinks about you. Our view of ourselves is influenced by things that have little, if any, eternal significance: our jobs, appearance, wealth, past, or education. God’s view of us is based on eternal truths: who He has made us to be and what He has done for us.

Understanding our new identity in Christ provides the foundation for a growing relationship with God and others, and gives us the perspective we need to have a more accurate view of ourselves.

A New Example

Date Sun, Jul 17, 2016

As “sojourners and exiles” (2:11), God’s people are to keep their conduct honorable so that God will be glorified. Perhaps the most difficult time to do this is when experiencing unjust suffering. But there is hope in such difficult circumstances when we obey God and follow Jesus’ example.

A New Response

Date Sun, Jul 24, 2016

Following Jesus’ example means living good lives before the world. When people unjustly inflict suffering on us, we endure it well, so that others might be drawn into a relationship with our Lord. Our suffering should point them to Jesus’ suffering, which He endured for their redemption. This is especially true when the difficulties come from someone close to us.

Does it seem like human suffering is, and will always remain, a mystery? Is it all the result of sin? 1 Peter has much to say on this subject. Today we will explore the spiritual significance of suffering—including God’s view, purposes, and role in our suffering—in a positive and redemptive perspective.
